Between 2012 and 2014 Doris Frohnapfel travelled several times to Lebanon. In Beirut, she followed the urban upheaval. Under the title ‘Confrontation Sites’, photographs of building details are collected, showing a creative variety of balconies, floor and facade elements – often architectural references to the “International Style” of the 1940s to 1980s. Many of them have already been rented out, released for speculation and are now dilapidated. Just as abandoned, but lifeless and without history, are the ‘Construction Sites’ in opposite. The digital photo arrangements reveal the urban reality of profit maximization: construction sites with half-finished buildings, high-rise skeletons, closed-off streets, scaffoldings and construction cranes that dominate the cityscape, oversized real estate banners of the emerging luxury apartments.
The second volume of the publication, entitled Brise-Soleil & Prospect Sites, includes further photographs, large reproductions of which primarily show structural sun protection and other facade structures.

Zwischen 2012 und 2014 reiste Doris Frohnapfel wiederholt in den Libanon. In Beirut ging sie dem urbanen Umbruch nach. Unter dem Titel ‘Confrontation Sites’ sind Fotografien von Gebäudedetails versammelt, die eine gestalterische Vielfalt von Balkonen, Geschoss- und Fassadenelementen zeigen – oft architektonische Anlehnungen an den “Internationalen Stil” der 40er bis 80er Jahre. Viele sind bereits entmietet, der Spekulation freigegeben und verfallen. Ebenso verlassen, aber leblos und geschichtslos sind die gegenübergestellten ‘Construction Sites’. Die digitalen Fotogruppierungen machen die urbane Realität der Profitmaximierung sichtbar: Baustellen mit halbfertigen Gebäuden, Hochhausskelette, abgesperrtes Straßenland, Gerüste und Baukräne, die das Stadtbild dominieren, überdimensionale Immobilienbanner der entstehenden Luxuswohnungen.
Der zweite Band der Publikation unter dem Titel Brise-Soleil & Prospect Sites fasst weitere Fotografien, die in großen Abbildungen vorwiegend baulichen Sonnenschutz und andere Fassadenstrukturen zeigen.
